Clean Planet: Leading the Charge in Sustainable Cleaning

Clean Planet: Leading the Charge in Sustainable Cleaning

The need for businesses to take care of the environment is growing more noticeable every day. Companies and customers alike are looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact, and Clean Planet is stepping up to meet this challenge. As a nationwide cleaning and property services provider, Clean Planet is committed to not only offering high-quality services but also taking significant steps toward a greener future.

Starting November 1st, Clean Planet will launch its Sustainable Packaging Programme—an initiative designed to reduce plastic waste by reusing the 150-200 plastic jerrycans shipped to franchisees each month, further reinforcing its leadership in product stewardship.

Instead of disposing of these containers, they will be returned to Clean Planet’s manufacturer, AWS Group, where they will be cleaned, refilled, and reused. Once they’ve been used as many times as is viable, the jerrycans will be recycled by Pact Group, further reducing waste. This initiative marks another important step in Clean Planet’s ongoing journey toward zero waste.

“Our focus has always been on providing high-quality, environmentally responsible services,” says Tony Pattison, Chief Executive of Clean Planet. “This new programme allows us to minimise plastic waste while contributing to our larger goal of zero waste, without compromising the service standards our residential and commercial clients expect.”

Growing Demand for Sustainable Practices

Sustainability is no longer optional; it’s a necessity. Many businesses and individuals are increasingly searching for eco-friendly alternatives to traditional cleaning services. Clean Planet’s programme to improve product sustainability directly responds to the growing demand for eco-friendly practices.

By reusing and recycling the containers used for their cleaning products, Clean Planet is demonstrating how companies can take action to reduce waste while maintaining the high-quality services that both residential and commercial customers expect.

Pam Castillo, Auckland CBD Master Regional Franchise Owner, notes, “Our clients love knowing that we’re not only cleaning their spaces but also doing our part to protect the environment. Clean Planet makes it easy for us to incorporate sustainability into our daily operations.”

Overcoming Challenges and Finding Solutions

Before adopting the new approach to sustainable packaging, Clean Planet sent plastic jerrycans to franchisees, hoping they would be recycled through local kerbside systems. However, with no way to track this, Clean Planet recognised the need for a better solution. The company worked with AWS Group to develop a system where containers could be returned, cleaned, and reused multiple times.

“We’ve always supported sustainability,” says Richard Hanna, Group General Manager at AWS Group. “Partnering with Clean Planet to repurpose these jerrycans was a perfect fit for us. We’re able to clean and reuse the containers several times, significantly cutting down on waste.”

Pact Group also plays a critical role by recycling the containers at the end of their life cycle, turning them back into resin, which can then be used to create new jerrycans or other plastic products. “This process keeps plastics out of landfills and gives them a new life,” explains Elaine Tippett, Sourcing and Logistics Manager at Pact Group.

To make the logistics work, Clean Planet partnered with Post Haste to manage the return and delivery of the containers. “Our close proximity to AWS made this process seamless,” says Mark Goeschl, Business Development Consultant at Post Haste. “It’s exciting to be part of a project that’s both practical and good for the environment.”

Looking Ahead: Clean Planet’s Future in Sustainability

Clean Planet’s focus on sustainable packaging is just one part of the company’s broader vision. As Clean Planet continues to grow, it remains committed to developing innovative, sustainable practices that not only reduce waste but also help franchisees run successful, environmentally friendly businesses. This is another important step in Clean Planet’s larger mission to become a zero-waste company.

“Reducing waste isn’t just about one project; it’s an ongoing journey,” says Pattison. “We’re always looking for new ways to improve and make a positive impact on the planet.”

Clean Planet’s commitment to eco-friendly practices will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the cleaning industry. By showing that sustainability and business growth can go hand in hand, Clean Planet is setting a new standard for cleaning services across New Zealand.
